Proxies: What they are and How you can Benefit from Their Possibilities

295

There are so many different computer softwares and technologies that all do different things, it’s hard to keep track of them and the jargon doesn’t make life easier for the less tech-savvy of us, but not to worry as in this guide we are going to break down what a proxy is and how it can really benefit you, whether it be in business or for personal use.

What Are They?

There are many different types of proxies, but the overall idea is that they are allow you to use the internet under a different IP address and so when online, your activity is not under your devices real IP but under another, or multiple and so prevents your activity being tracked to your location – identifying which country you are in and can sometimes be as specific as street you are on – your IP address could lead to certain content on websites being blocked and preventing you from accessing them and your name along with your home address are linked to your personal IP address. These factors do not bother some people but a proxy can prevent all of these things.

In layman’s terms, proxy servers are computers on the internet that have an IP address and your personal computer will interact with to visit websites, they can block or grant you access to these sites. Due to the complexity of servers they are not owned by everyone and so proxy providers, such as Proxyway, fulfill any need you may have.

Residential proxies will provide IP addresses that will be assigned to your home – from phones, computers, smart TVs – they rotate and so allow you to hide your location and your IP address, access content online that may have a geo-location block and appear as multiple users to a server. On the other hand, if you are looking for a proxy for a more specific reason, such as accompanying a bot for online shopping, sneaker proxies may be the choice for you. And long with these, there are many other options that you can read up on.

What Are Their Benefits?

Above I outlined some of the possible uses of proxies, but I will elaborate on their benefits to you as an online user:

  • Hidden IP Address

Many online users are fine with their IP addresses being public, but others would prefer them to be private or untraceable. Your IP address is left behind when you access content online and this can allow people to know your location – the country you are in and sometimes even as accurate as a street address. Proxies allow you to have a hidden IP to avoid your activity becoming traceable to your location and instead of sites logging you personal IP, the server IP is logged instead, keeping your activity practically anonymous online.

  • Access to Blocked Sites

Some websites online are subject to geolocation, which means that access is limited to particular countries in the world, a common example of this is Netflix, as their content is subject to users location around the world. A proxy can grant you access to this content by providing an appropriate IP address for that site, allowing you to bypass restrictions and browse freely.
