World No 1 Simona Halep defeated World No 3 Sloane Stephens in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 to lift the Rogers Cup. This is Halep’s third title this year, which also included her first Grand Slam at Roland Garros.

This is the second time the two players face each other for a title, and the second time the Romanian comes ahead. In June, Halep defeated Stephens for the French Open title.

This is the second time Simona Halep wins the Rogers Cup.

Halep won the match with her fourth ace after  two hours and 41 minutes.

During her acceptance speech, Halep addressed Romanian fans, thanking them for their support and asking those who shouted political slurs to refrain from doing that on the tennis court.
