UPC Romania reported 978,400 customers at the end of the second quarter of this year, down 26.9 percent compared with March 31, 2018, and 24.6 percent less than June 30, 2017, according to UPC Holding BV The Netherlands, part of the American Liberty Global group.
At the end of March 2018, the company had 1,338 million customers, and in June 2017 this indicator stood at 1,297 million. The decrease is the effect of excluding from the quarterly report of UPC Romania the number of customers in the segment of satellite television services (DTH), Focus Sat, which at the end of March this year had 365,500 customers.
Focus Sat was entirely taken over by UPC Romania in 2006 and the company haven’s presented a reason why it wasn’t included in the report, a possible reason being the recent global transaction in which Vodafone took over Liberty Global, UPC’s owner.
During the analyzed period, June 2018 versus June 2017, the fixed telephony segment recorded an increase by 10.8 percent to 557,300 customers. At the same time, Internet access services also advanced 6.5 percent to 589,800.
The operator also achieved good results in the digital cable television sector, with a 4.7 percent growth over June 2017, to 685,800 customers. Analogue TV has fallen by 3.3 percent over the past 12 months to 245,800.
Overall, analogue and digital cable services increased by 2.5 percent compared to June 2017 to 931.6 million users, but decreased by 0.4 percent compared to March 2018.
UPC Romania’s net revenues increased by 6.5 percent, from RON 689.3 million in 2016 to RON 734.4 million in 2017. In the first quarter of this year, UPC Romania recorded revenues of RON 190.7 million, up almost 7 percent compared to RON 178.4 million in the first quarter of last year.
The Romanian operator is affiliated with UPC Broadband, the European division of Liberty Global, one of the largest cable companies in the world, now in Vodafone portofolio. The company provides television services broadband internet and telephony in about 300 localities of the country.
