A group of entrepreneurs from Baia Mare are working on the first electric vehicles that are “Made in Romania”, with cars having a starting price of EUR 13,700.
The entrepreneurs have started with the production plans for two models – a 2-seat model called GTG Oxygen and a 4-seat car called GTG Ozone.
The manager of the company, Gheorghe Muresan, said he was inspired by American Tesla founder Elon Musk in his business endeavor.
“We are a company that originally was a large textile manufacturer, and because of the crisis, the market has dramatically reduced. A business is, after all, a matter of information, management, and walking through Asian countries, we have seen how others have solved the problem of electric transport and so it has come to us to produce electric cars in Romania. I admire Elon Musk’s ingenuity and workmanship, and that’s where our idea comes from, the permanent anxieties specific to successful people. We attempted with minimal resources, under Romanian market conditions, to build a business idea in this field,” Muresan said, according to Mediafax.
The entrepreneur said the project is in the implementation stage and is worth EUR 1.5 million. EU funds cover 74 percent of the project financing, while the rest is covered from the company’s resources.
Muresan said the plan is to have the first assembly line online by February 2019 with a production capacity of 4,000 per year. The concept of the cars belongs to an Italian designer.
The cars have a maximum speed of 55 – 60 km/h and an autonomy for one day.
One prototype produced in Baia Mare has been used by the manager of the company for the last two years. He covered some 8,000 km in urban areas.
