UPC Romania and Vodafone Romania, subject of a global acquisition deal valued at EUR 19 billion on U.S. GAAP basis, as compared to EUR 18.4 billion (USD 22 billion) on an EU-IFRS basis, have published today their key performance indicators and most recent figures.
Vodafone Romania is the second largest mobile provider, while UPC Romania is the second largest NGN operator in Romania, with 3.1 million homes passed (41 percent of total households).
The combined company will be able to offer interactive TV services, broadband internet and fixed-line telephony services, as well as mobile, to Vodafone Romania’s 9.9 million mobile customers and UPC Romania’s 2.1 million fixed revenue generating units. The combined company will have a total communications revenue market share of 25 percent.
Vodafone Romania ended the last quarter of 2017 with 9,944,595 customers, up by 5.2 percent year-on-year. Out of the total number of customers, 9,221,666 were mobile customers.
Service revenues reached EUR 182.3 million, up by 2.2 percent year-on-year on an organic basis. At the end of December 2017, mobile postpaid customers represented 40 percent and prepaid customers 60 percent of Vodafone Romania’s total mobile base, compared to 41 percent and, respectively, 59 percent in the same period last year.
According to data provided by the operator, data usage increased by 71 percent in Q4 compared to the same period of 2016.
Murielle Lorilloux, CEO of Vodafone Romania, said: “The supremacy of our Supernet 4.5G network on both mobile voice and data services, reconfirmed by the latest Best in Test certification, is also recognized by the rising number of customers who choose our services. The last three months of 2017 brought a strong increase of our customer base, driven by the growing smartphone penetration, especially on 4G customers, which went up by more than 50 pct YoY.”
UPC Romania posts growth in Q1 2018
UPC Romania posted better figures in Q1 2018 than last year. At the end of Q1 2018, UPC Romania had 1.33 million clients, up by 3.6 percent more than in Q1 2017, but 0.6 percent fewer than at the end of December 2017. The revenues for Q1 2018 went up to RON 190.7 million, a 7 percent growth from the previous year.
In the past 12 months, the number of subscriptions went up by 5.9 percent, to 2.42 million. The landline services segment had the best results, with a 12.2 percent increase from March 2017, to 547,800. Internet service subscriptions also grew by 8 percent, to 587,300.
According to company representatives, the growth was due to the expansion of coverage for digital services, as well as the permanent improvement of the experience offered to clients.
