According to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), in 2017 there were 41,603 construction permits given for residential buildings, a 7.6 percent growth from 2016.

In terms of development regions, the number of authorizations increased in North-East (+851), Bucharest-Ilfov (+799), Centre (+456), West (+350), South-East (+286), South-West Oltenia (+258) and South Muntenia (+137). The only decrease was seen in the North-West (-187).

In December 2017, there were 2,724 permits released for the building of residential properties, of which 67.8 percent were in the rural area. The regional profile distribution shows a decrease in the number of building permits given out for residential buildings, compared to November 2017, in all development regions.
