Safetech Innovations, a Romanian cybersecurity company listed on the AeRO market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, announces its involvement as a co-organizer in CTF-USV (Capture the Flag). This is a competition dedicated to students in Romania and abroad that consists of solving several cybersecurity problems at the level of web applications. Ștefan cel Mare University of Suceava and Assist Software Romania are the other traditional partners of this competition. They are joined for the first time by the Carol I National Defence University.

“We are glad that we are involved for the sixth year in a row in organizing this event together with the Ștefan cel Mare University of Suceava, Assist Software Romania and Carol I National Defence University. At Safetech, education represents a core of our activity as cybersecurity is an industry where we learn continuously. We believe that it is important to invest in the future generations of information security specialists and provide them the chance to practice the notions learned during the university cycle. Our objective related to this competition is to attract as many members of the private and academic environment as possible and to transform this event together into a traditional one for the cybersecurity sector in Romania,” stated Victor Gânsac, CEO of Safetech Innovations.

The competition will take place online between November 18-19, 2021, and students from accredited academic institutions in Romania and abroad can register by forming teams of up to four people. They must also be accompanied by a mentor or coach from the university they register for the competition.

The challenges in the competition are related to capturing several flags at the level of web applications or systems with induced vulnerabilities. Students will analyze and solve tasks specific to computer networks and data security issues in a virtual environment hosted on a dedicated platform. Depending on each task solved, the teams will receive a number of points, and at the end, a general ranking will be made. The teams ranked in the first three places will be awarded.

“We are pleased to note the evolution of this competition, and we want students from Romania and abroad to register as many as possible for this year’s edition. We have a jury made up of professionals with experience in cybersecurity from the private sector, directly involved in managing the increasingly acute problems in the field of information security. They operate within the co-organizing entities being in direct contact with the emerging challenges in the digital services market. This gives the CTF-USV competition the expected level of complexity,” Alin Potorac, the competition coordinator from the Ștefan cel Mare University of Suceava.

Last year’s edition was attended by 29 teams of students from Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. On the first three places were ranked two teams from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, 1st and 3rd places, on the second place being ranked a team from the Military Technical Academy Ferdinand I. More details about the competition are available at https://ctf.usv.ro/.
